On 2011-06-21 from 11:00 (AM, yes), Ikarus and Juerd are going to rewire the emergency lighting. They were wired in a hurry to be in time for the Ethical Hacking workshop, and as a shortcut we simply connected everything to the existing wires for lighting. That's suboptimal and probably illegal because it means that a while after the lights have been turned off, so will the lights of the escape route signs, as the batteries run dead.

Shopping list:

  • 50m 3*1,5mm stranded (order placed)
  • 24x Wago 222 series 5 lead terminal block
  • 8x Junction box
  • 1x 6A or 10A fuse

The plan:

  • Use circuit 2 (originally used for the elevator)
  • Use flexible cable so it doesn't have to be mounted
  • Use a low capacity fuse because we're using thin wires
  • Don't use ANY schuko connectors, again because of the thin wires
  • Daisy chain all 7 emergency lights together

Feel free to join us if you want to help out. Anyone can do this. We'll teach you how to strip and splice cables if this skill doesn't come naturally to you :)
