Visit to CERN

Seems that most dutchies will _not_ be going... so this page is probably a bit redundant

+ Practical Info

From CERN's email:

  • Date: Saturday February 20th 2010, 14:00
  • Language: English
  • Program: introductory conference (~30 min.) + film (~15 min) + visit of an experimental area (~2 hrs).
  • Do not wear open shoes or high heels.
  • Bring passport or ID (Both are valid for cross the borders of Switzerland)

We will probably combine this with a Dutch hackerspaces trip (multiple cars, train or maybe even renting a bus).

We need an 'autobahnvignet' per each car to be able to drive through Switzerland, see ANWB (dutch)

+ Transport

At this moment we are playing with the idea to drive there with cars. It is approximally 1000 km so it would be smart to use 'company' cars for it, let the employers pay :). Below a list of people who have cars and are willing to drive. We will probably need 4/5 cars. Winter tires are not necessary, but are highly recommended according to Swiss government...

  • H2os ( 3 spots left )

+ People

People interested (pending details such as exact time and cost of course):

  • larstiq
  • H2os(tim)
  • bamieater
  • Turiphro
  • Gohla
  • The trip is filled to capacity currently*, you may take a chance at the wait list over at /tmp/lab's wiki..

Also Randomdata people are interested: http://www.randomdata.nl/wiki/index.php/CERNvisit
For now Fish and Vis are joining, may-be more.

See http://www.tmplab.org/wiki/index.php/Hackers_at_CERN for more info. *Deadline for expressing the intent to join: october 19th!*

As soon as details become available, gmc (or someone else :) will update this page.

The invitation

Hi,

With the Tetalab (hackerspace @ Toulouse France)
We have also initited the project to visit CERN.

I am personally for job reason very often at CERN and I am to organize
a visit who could be done not thru there normal circuit.

How many peoples are interested to visit CERN at this point ?

> The /tmp/lab is organizing a visit of the the world's largest particle physics
> laboratory.
> According to their website (http://outreach.web.cern.ch/outreach/visits/):
> - we need to book at least 4 months in advance, so the final visit date should
> be in February/March
> - we have to organize ourselves to get there (car sharing, etc.)
> - we need to be a group of at least 12 persons
>
> E-mail me if you are interested about the visit!
